YELLOW REGISTRATION CERTIFICATE
These are issued to the 3 S’s! Self-employed, self-sufficient or students. The only one of these 3 routes under which you may be employed is as a student.
SELF-EMPLOYED
If you come to the UK to set up your own business you will not need to obtain permission to work in that capacity, but you will need to demonstrate, if challenged, that you are genuinely self-employed.
Therefore, you may wish to apply for a Yellow Registration Certificate. You need to be aware, however, that a registration certificate issued on this basis will not allow you to take up any employment other than on a self-employed basis.

SELF-SUFFICENT
Speaks for itself really!
If you have enough money to support yourself in the UK without working you may apply for the Yellow Registration Certificate in order to prove this.
STUDENT
This is the most interesting of the 3 because it offers you 2 types of employment opportunity.
If you are a student in the UK you may work for 20 hours per week during term time and full time in the holidays.
In addition to which, if you are a student on a vocational course* you may work full time as part of that course.
If you are a student in the UK you will need to apply for the Yellow Registration Certificate in order to work.

You can only apply for a Yellow Registration Certificate if you are already in the UK.
*ETCi run a small number of 6 – 12 month vocational courses for those interested in the catering and hospitality industry. Please visit the sandwich course section of our main website for more details. The Yellow Registration Certificate application is included as part of this course.

Yes. You may still qualify for the Blue Registration Certificate as a highly skilled migrant.
